I like the story I heard years ago...maybe it's in print somewhere but 
regardless, here it is again.

A fan asked Red Norvo for his autograph, which Red signed and then said : 
"Would you like Mildred Bailey's as well?" A bit stunned, the fan said "Well 
yes, but she's been dead for years".

"That's OK" said Red, "When we were working together I signed all the 
contracts for both of us. I can do a perfect forgery of her signature".
