[Dixielandjazz] A Master of ReInvention?

Ask folks today about Mantovani and they will wax eloquently about his  
beautifully orchestrated songs of the 1950s, 60s 70s, etc. Like at:

But what about his music in the 1930s? For a treat see:

Son of a gun, he swung better than a lot of bands back then. Did he  
sell out,  or did he just stick with dance music?

On some of Eddie Condon's records, you will hear Condon shout  
"Mantovani" from time to time after some really neat ensemble improv.  
He did that during his shows at his joint on Greenwich Village also.
