Re: song stealing

My favorite (documented) story is by Joe Jordan, composer and ragtime
pianist. He walked into a music shop in the 'teens and heard one of his themes
from his already published That Teasin' Rag coming from a Victrola. When the
record was over, he looked at the label and saw a title: Original
Dixieland One Step by the ODJB. Nowhere was his name listed as composer. He sued
the Victor Talking Machine Company, who quickly added a line on the label
crediting him. No royalties were forthcoming, however, and his further action
resulted in a payment from the Victor company - 40 years later!!
