[Dixielandjazz] A bit OT - some video about the Dutch small brass band playing at the Olympics

The subject of the Olympics brings to mind a group that played during the
opening ceremonies in Torino, Italy whatever year the event was held there,
perhaps 2003 or 2004.

It is Paolo Conte and his Dr. Dixie Jazz Band. I have not found anyone
among my contacts here in the states familiar with the ensemble but thought
since there appears to be a rather large
contingent of European subscribers here on DJML, someone might be familiar
with them.

I obtained a CD by the band before I had heard of them playing in Torino
that I find to be excellent. There appears to be some conflict between the
personnel listed and the number of musicians pictured on the album cover,
One has 12, the other 14, don't recall which, but
it hardly really matters, as it is the sound that they achieve that is all
important.

Conte himself plays vibes but he doesn't "hog" the show. In fact on many of
the cuts, the sound
of his instrument is barely audible.if at all present.

I picked it up most inexpensively from an outfit called Daedalus Music
that has me on their mailing list and have been quite pleased with it,
particularly with their interpretations of "Sweet Georgia Brown" and "The
Sheik of Araby" whick kick things off
