Colin Toomer asked:
> Has anyone a recording by any musician or group and able to put on an audio attachment.
> Is it a Don Redman tune? 1930's era?
> Everybody has recorded it, is their lyrics?
Dear Colin,
"Cherry" was composed in 1928 by Don Redman (sometimes incorrectly given as Redmond).
A version by The Big Aces, recorded for Okeh in New York on 29 September 1928, has Tommy Dorsey, Nat Natoli (t) Jack Teagarden (tb) Don Redman (cl,as,arr) Jimmy Dorsey (cl,as) Frank Teschmacher (cl,ts) George Thomas (ts,vcl) Frank Signorelli (p) Carl Kress (g) Hank Stern (tu) Stan King (d,vib).
Here is a RealPlayer link to that version on the Red Hot Jazz Archive site.
I hope you can open it.

> Good that UK ex UK drummer, Pat Ladd & Wendy actually got to hear some local Whangarei, Northland, New Zealand jazz and even hear his new friend Colin Toomer on drums with local big band and in a jam session.
I have been meaning to comment on Pat's visit.
They are due in Sydney, Australia (1st-4th March) and we will be catching up with them once again.
Jess and I were in Whangarei/Paihia/Russell for a few hours only (on the ms Vollendam) the week before they visited to you.
Like all shore excursions involving the ship's tender, coach transfers and the local ferry, it was all a bit rushed, with no time to look you up in the phone book, let alone get to meet you.
A pity.
Very kind regards,
Bill.
