Stan was Maynard, jr., but, like Wynton, played OK trad. I worked some 
promos with him and he could play very earthy without going 
stratospheric. And he knew the trad repertoire.

He was a good organizer and leader, but a perfectionist. Over time he 
fired every player in Sacramento except Bill Dickson, who resigned 
before Stan got to him.
