Those not enthused by Christmas can at least raise a glass on this latterly despiritualised day to the memory of Miles Kington wit and jazz-buff and jazz writer and vocalist and
player of double bass in the ensemble Instant Sunshine
Miles published a lament in his press column when Humphrey Lyttelton decided to reorganise his activities and cut back his weekly show to a fortnightly schedule
He asked what he would do without that milestone in his week
Alas he never needed to deal with the gulf which opened when Humph ceased these broadcasts altogether for Miles had by then predeceased our hero and at an even younger age -- fifties I think rather than eighties. Much missed
By conducting a web search
"Miles Kington" Christmas
anyone can find a selection of the Kington wit as applied to the winter holiday currently being referred to by various participants in this group.
Some people might need this . . . eventually
