Steve Barbone's reminiscences of the "Dixieland revival" bring me back to the '50s, when I was a college student in Boston, first at Northeastern U, then MIT -- neither one far from  that now-lost gem on Massachusetts Ave, The Savoy Cafe.

I went there whenever I could, as a someone learning and loving (and playing -- piano) trad Dixie.  Got to meet and buy drinks for the stalwarts who kept the music alive from the 20's, 30's, and 40's, to bring it to us then.  Never will forget buying Omer Simeon a drink there, and chatting with him about his role in keeping this music alive.

Oh, how I would love to visit the Savoy (the site is now some kind of retail store -- <sob!>) again, and hear all the trad bands I enjoyed back then!
