[Dixielandjazz] New Orleans Jazz Camp

Hi all - 
I just wanted to interject about the New Orleans Jazz Camp.  This is a week long jazz camp in the French Quarter (August 1 - 6), that ties into Satchmo Summer Fest (August 5 - 8). http://www.fqfi.org/satchmosummerfest/  At the end of the week, some of the campers will qualify to perform at the festival (which I think is an amazing opportunity!), and the discounted room rate will extend through the festival if you plan on staying.  As well as David Sager teaching trombone, several of my other friends will be teaching as well.  

The list of instructors is:

Banu Gibson - Vocals
Kerry Lewis - Bass
David Sager - Trombone
Otis Bazoon - Reeds
David Boeddinghaus - Piano
Don Vappie - Banjo / Guitar
Connie Jones - Trumpet
Bunchy Johnson - Drums

Even if you don't recognize some of the names, they are all working professionals with strong ties to New Orleans and traditional jazz.
Banu is spearheading this project and as you may know, New Orleans is still on the mend.  This is not only a great way to bring people and income back to the city, but it's also a great way to promote traditional jazz in the city where it began.  I'd like to ask the DJMLers that are on other message boards and forums to please forward this email to other people and message boards that might be interested. This is their first year and I'd like to see it become a fixture in New Orleans in the same way that the traditional camps here in California thrive.
