[Dixielandjazz] For the WW 2 Vets

Here's a deja vu moment if you were in the Armed Forces of the USA in  
1942, or old enough to hear these on the radio back then. Broadcasts  
of "Command Performance" were beamed to US servicemen around the  
world. Hosted by Bob Burns, who plays his famous "bazooka" (remember  
him?)

This performance below, 33 3/3 features him (bazooka), Count Basie  
(piano), Spike Jones (drums) Tommy Dorsey drums), Lionel Hampton  
(vibes) and Dinah Shore (vocal). They perform "Dinah" at the 4:45  
minute mark.

For all of us whose musical memory extends back to 1942, these  
"Command Performance" snips are a real treat. For those who are  
younger it is a look back into the past. Corny today, perhaps, but not  
then.

These were put on line back in April and not too many folks have tuned  
in yet. Probably because we old folks who remember these days are fast  
departing this earth.
