Base as well as bass ....
Those without access to British television might have missed the commercial which sent up the bass-boost bravos with the suggestion that anyone who couldn't afford the sort of deafness-inducing gear these clowns liked to show off might go down the local labour exchange and hire somebody to ply a couple of hefty mallets inside their otherwise humble vehicle.

It's not as bad as it used to be, possibly former offenders are having the noise channeled directly into the hearing aids they now need
