Marek wrote about Edmond Hall being one of the greats, but under
recorded.
Bill Hassler, a/k/a "de debbil" wrote that Hall is on 260 recording
dates and maybe that equates to 1500 songs.
All I can add is that I agree with Marek that Ed Hall was one of the
greats. I saw and heard a lot of him with various Condon groups when I
was a young man in New York City. At that time, I thought he was the
hottest Dixieland Jazz Clarinetist around.
Better than on recordings, because he got the chance to extend his
solos a bit more. <grin>
Favorite story about him is the one that happened when a fan asked
Condon:
"Say, is that clarinetist, Edmond Hall, black?" To which Condon
replied:
"I don't know, I never asked him."
