In about 1980 or so, my daughter was doing "Facts of Life," a sit-com for
NBC. It was rehearsed and taped at Norman Lear's studios along with several
other shows including "Different Strokes," "One Day At a Time", Archie's
Place," "Sanford and Son," "Hello Larry" and others.

One day while watching a rehearsal of "Facts," I heard a big band rehearsing
down the hall. Of course I beat it down there.

It was Les Brown's band rehearsing for a TV special. Mel Torme was singing
and directing the band. Several other celebrities were there including
George Shearing. I was able to sit down and talk with him for about a half
an hour. Very nice gentleman.
