  I believe you are referring to:
'BIX The Definitive Biography of a Jazz Legend' by Jean Pierre Lion.

I have had this book for several years, but must confess that I have  
only dipped into it. A solid read.
Very comprehensive and packed with information.
A more straight ahead account of Bix's life than the Sudhalter, Evans,  
Dean-Myatt 'Bix. Man & Legend' and the Evans and Evans 'Bix'.
Which is not to detract from either of these comprehensive works.
