Dear Marek,
Because the early discographers believed that it was Coleman Hawkins
on the 4 April 1930 Jack Purvis session (although Walt Allen always
had doubts), and it is listed as such in all editions of the Brian
Rust bible, 'Jazz Records'. Even the 2002 edition.
Tom Lord's updated 'The Jazz Discography' includes a note referring to
Castor McCord.
It was not until the 1970s interview with Okeh man, Bob Stephens, that
the true facts emerged.
However, the information was never widely circulated via discography
until fairly recently.
And discographers aren't really infallible.

So do I.
Kind regards,
Bill.
