For crying out out loud.
I dont know who wrote that  fatuous statement but what was meant was 
perfectly obvious from the context.  How such a simple, and true, statement 
can cause such an hurraw beggars belief.  What  it meant is obvious to 
anyone to whom English is their primary language.

Would you accept `to woo an audience` or does that have overt sexual 
conotation too?   To be friendly,  to lead,  to excite, to win over, to be 
sympatico with,  in harmony with. Surely all that is what any band worth 
their salt is trying to do.
