Hi Bob et al,
Delicado was written by the virtuoso Brazilian cavaquinho player Waldyr Azevedo. It was written as a baiao (sorry, no diacriticals in Outlook Express) and became a much-played standard in the repertoire of Brazilian chorinho groups. A baiao is a Brazilian rhythm which is fundamentaly the same as a Charleston beat, but with a bit more syncopation and ornamentation.
Once Delicado escaped into the wide world, it was often played as a samba, or more correctly "gringo samba." It became an international hit and ought to have made Waldyr Azevedo a rich man. I just hope he got his bread.
Regards,
