Steve,
This clip of Singin' the Blues is one of my favorite jazz videos.
Butterfield was so good. I was lucky enough to see and hear him and
Yank Lawson in 1970 with the World's Greatest Jazz Band in a now
defunct club north of Boston. That band also included Bud Freeman,
Gus Johnson, Bob Wilber, Bob Haggart, and two great trombone players
I can't remember now. They were not the ones on their early records,
Lou McGarity and Carl Fontana, but they were in the same class. An
unforgettable night of jazz, back when giants still walked the earth.
