Chelsea Dock is a young girl who could teach us all a lot about how to
succeed in the music business. Sure she has a great talent, but check
out the independent self marketing of it.
For example: On myspace she has over 62,300 friends.

She gets (or maybe it's her dad them by going on line asking other
myspace members to add her as a friend. Or maybe she has an automated
program to do so?
Once members accept, she posts her DVD sound bite on their pages. For
example, scroll down to the comments on:

(You can also see it at: www.myspace.com/barbonestreetjazzband)
Today she added at least 40 new friends (probably a lot more)
including Barbone Street and several other jazz bands. I figured that
out by checking her "new" friends added after she added me.
No doubt this is only a small part of her story. But it shows us all
what can be accomplished by bands or musicians individually.
I wonder if she uses Facebook too? That program is good for developing
a local fan base.
Reminds me of how Dave Brubeck and wife self marketed the quartet to
Colleges and Universities by mailing out brochures they had assembled
on their kitchen table. Result? 9 college dates the next year, "Jazz
Goes To College" and the start of a huge fan base.
Cheers,
