Visitation and funeral services for Phil Carroll (producer/host of the Atlanta Jazz Party), who died after a long battle with cancer, were held this morning at Church of the Good Shepherd in Lookout Mountain, Tennessee.

I was able to get away from work long enough for the visitation but missed the service. Cornetist Ed Polcer, who served as music director for the AJP and was a part of every one, came down from up north to play at Phil's service.

Phil will be missed, but the Atlanta Jazz Party will continue for its 20th and final year, according to his family.

Norman comments: Phil and wife Lee have been great friends to traditional jazz performers and listeners.
They put on a party in Atlanta ( Phil was accountant with firm which had offices in Atlanta and Chattanooga; he chose to live in Chattanooga.) Always first class. Did it essentially by themselves-- recruiting family members and a few friends to put it on. There was no formal "organization" which backed the effort; family just wanted to do it. And, they were great friends to me, personally, as well as the Jazz Society of Pensacola. They attended our three jazz parties 89-91 and subsequently shared insights and information with us.
