Sorry we can't catch this string of dates, Bob. But we have some swing
sessions going on here in the North Woods of Michigan. I've had my ax
swinging every day, and some hot stuff has resulted. Theme song is
Woodchoppers Ball, and my ax has been splitting firewood for our woodstove.
I'd ask a neighbor to join me for a 'cutting session,' but the turncoat
is headed for Florida already.
But anyone who misses some of the sessions you have alerted us to is
crazy. We have almost no jazz of any kind of OKOM roots going on up
here, the snow is falling the temperatures dropping, and so we read your
exhotations about gigs we would love to catch - and hope your words do
not go unheeded.
Thank God for those tapes, CD's and LP's that remind us of times past
when you could find some good jazz in a dozen Chicago and Detroit
joints at any given time. Now, even in the Big Windy, Andy's Jazz at
Noon is now Jazz at drive time, and fewer bands are on stage.
Ah well, it's still LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION.
But keep the advance news coming - at least we of the jazz deprived can
still read about them. Since few decent reviews of jazz are in
newspapers these days, getting it from "The Bob" should earn you a
Pulitzer. I'd give you mine but it's holding up one leg of my record
cabinet.
Regards from the "Chozen Frozen of North Michigan," where we are now a
two-season state - Winter and Road Construction. There's nobody left in
this state to turn off the lights when they leave.
Don (there's a ringing in my ear so I shot the cymbol-happy drummer) Ingle
