[Dixielandjazz] Davern didn't like it

Nice name for a tune, I suddenly realise...
Whereas Sidney Bechet performed the musical striptease
by dismantling his clarinet, Kenny Davern working with
Howard Alden, Ronnie Rae and an expat auburn-haired
Scottish drummer who played fluegelhorn at jam
sessions dismantled a microphone without putting down
his clarinet (but not at the same time as playing his
clarinet) indicating with precise enunciation --- he
did not shout -- that this was an

acoustic

gig -- and he took the matter seriously, managing
somehow to point out of the window with his shoulder,
at the window of a hotel bedroom also on a courtyard
with the windows of the jazz venue. That bedroom had
once been his bedroom, and it was with a rare
satisfaction that he was dismantling the microphone in
this particular venue.
And I still haven't remembered the drummer's name.
His quiet playing reminded me of the sound of dancers'
feet.
