[Dixielandjazz] Attracting The Young Kids

I have to agree with Jim Kashishian on this one. People like to
discover new (to them) things, music being no exception. I stray
into doing turn-of-the-century (19th), Gordon Lightfoot, Thelonius
Monk, Celtic, original and others' music.
The audience reaction is always favourable and we sometimes get
comments like 'what a great song, why haven't I heard it before?'
from both younger and older audience members.

Someone earlier said "It's The Way In How You Do It". We attract a
young 18
to 90 yr old crowd (heavy mix on the 18 to 30 yrs!)and don't
particularly
look for "new" songs, although we have a number of them. However,
we play
with great fervor (as they say). If the complete club is on their
feet at
the end of a song, you know they liked it!! They don't have to know
the
song, just enjoy what they heard.
