[Dixielandjazz] Beebe - more

Greetings Bill,

You shoulda been a songwriter! You're very close with your assumed
lyrics to "Bebe". The chorus starts:

Bebe, Bebe, Bebe be mine
Bebe, Bebe, angel devine
.......

As far as I've learned "Bebe" has nothing to do with "Beebe" or by
the look of it Jim Beebe. It's not exactly a common name so might
the title have something to do with Jim Beebe's father or a
relative?

Cheers,

Ric

Dear Anton,
Yes. I have.
In fact, was doing so again when your second email on the subject
came
in.
The original 1923 'Bebe" (Silver) was recorded by the Original
Indiana
Five in May 1923 and is typical of the show songs of the period.
No vocal, unfortunately, but one can almost hear the first line of
the
chorus to be something like:
"Bebe, Bebe, oh how I love you".
I don't have the Bailey's Lucky Seven or the California Ramblers
records.
But you can listen to the Bailey's and Indiana 5 versions on the
indispensable Red Hot Jazz site at
   redhot jazz.com
Or access via the wonderful index at:

Certainly not the Jimmy Dorsey composition.
Kind regards,
Bill.
