Hello all,

The Jelly Roll Morton website has been updated with the following 6 articles
of great historical interest:

Peter Hanley sends an in-depth essay on the Memphis ragtime pianist Ben
(Benny) French. This accompanies French's WWI draft registration card, and
includes much detailed and new information. Mention of Jack the Bear, who,
along with Jelly Roll, peddled the Coca Cola and salt consumption cure in
Clarksdale, Mississippi.

Brian Goggin sends an excellent essay on the St. Louis trumpeter George
Dewey Jackson. This accompanies Jackson's WWI draft registration card.
Mention of Jelly Roll Morton, Harry Dial, Charlie Creath and the ragtime
pianist, George Reynolds.

Brian Goggin sends a superb essay on the ragtime and riverboat pianist Fate
C. Marable. This accompanies Marable's WWI draft registration card.
Mention of Jelly Roll, Luis Russell and Henry "Red" Allen.

Prof. Lawrence Gushee and Prof. Alan Wallace send an article from the
Pittsburgh Courier about the 4th July 1929 Arden Downs Classic car race at
Washington, Pennsylvania. Ex-heavyweight champion Jack Johnson and Jelly
Roll Morton promoted the event.

Morton and Benny Goodman Trios.
