Below is a snip from a NY Times article about the music concert
industry. Basically for the first half of 2008, the rise in gas prices
and the economic slowdown have not affected concert grosses, though
attendance has been shrinking over the years. BTW, on average, 90%
of the ticket prices go to the performers.
"Grosses might be holding steady, but attendance has been slipping for
years, as the industry has remained profitable by selling fewer
tickets for more money. The total number of tickets sold in the first
half of 2008 fell by 5.6 percent to 16.9 million, though that was
offset by a 5.9 percent increase in prices. The average ticket price
for Bon Jovi, for example, was $88, and for Jay-Z and Ms. Blige it was
$111." (Pop Tours Still Sell Despite Economy, NY Times July 12, 2008
Ben Sisario)
Note the ticket prices above. Note also that the only OKOMer who
commands those prices is Woody Allen. Hmmmmmmmmm.
