Press Release – the Twelfth Now You Has Jazz Jazz Jazz Festival
Pontin’s Pakefield Suffolk – 29th February – 3rd March
A Feast of Traditional Jazz, Swing, Jive Dancing, Marx Brothers inspired
comedy and songs from the American Songbook, will set the east coast
jumping on Friday 29th February to Monday 3rd March.
The Twelfth Now You Has Jazz, Jazz Jazz Festival which takes place at
Pontin’s Holiday Village, London Rd, Kessingland, nr Lowestoft, Suffolk,
is the biggest residential jazz festival in the UK, drawing fans from
far and wide.
Lined up to appear in this star studded musical explosion is Germany’s
leading classic jazz band, Rod Mason’s Hot Five, with music in the early
Louis Armstrong style.

Frankfurt based trumpet star, Herbert Christ, young Italian pianist,
Paolo Alderighi and Australian guitarist David Blenkhorn will be
featured in John Petters International All-star Jazz Band.

Also from Australia will be the first lady of the slap bass, Annie
Hawkins and fellow countryman, the World Champion of Jazz, Max Collie,
who will front a hand picked band, starring clarinettist Dave Bailey,
(Germany) and British stars, ‘Gentleman’ Jim McIntosh, banjo, Ken Sims
and Chez Chesterman, cornets.

Essex based pianist / vocal star, Nick Dawson will join chanteuse, Val
Wiseman for a celebration of songs by Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Nat
King Cole.

Gypsy Jazz will be featured by talented string band, ‘Swing From Paris’,
with guest clarinettist, John Wurr.
Internationally famous Dixieland band, the Gresty / White Ragtimers will
feature music made famous by Chicago cornet legend, Muggsy Spanier.
Essex favourites, The Hugh Rainey Jazz Band, will stomp through a
selection of New Orleans evergreens, especially aimed at the dancers.
There will be tributes to the original Benny Goodman Trio, featuring the
young clarinet wizard, James Evans and ‘Musical Mayhem’ and comedy from
Suffolk based Bob Kerr’s Whoopee Band.

A series of Jive Dance Master Classes will be conducted by
internationally famous dance instructors, Trisha and Joseph Sewell and a
special Dance starring John Petters Swing Band will enable fans to put
what they have learned into practise.

The atmosphere of the New Orleans Mardi-gras will be captured with Grand
Marshall, Terry Eastwood leading the Parade Band with the colourful
brolly procession.
Suffolk based veteran Drumming star, Colin Bowden will be featured with
an all star quartet and Norfolk’s Jazz Aristocrat, ‘Lord’ Arsenal will
bring some Boogie–Woogie piano and a twist of humour to the proceedings.

Other highlights include Walkin’ With The King – a Sunday morning New
Orleans Gospel and Spirituals show and Chez Chesterman’s Goodtime Jazz
Band.
No less than twenty three live music sessions will be crammed into an
action packed weekend, together with a jazz lecture, a forum and quiz.
