If you use Firefox as a browser there are free plugins that let you save
videos from most of the sites like YouTube, MySpace, DailyMotion etc.

If you search the firefox plugin site you will find several.

The YouTube videos are "flv" files which are flash videos. You can either
convert these to something more common (again a google search will
show several free programs that do this) or you can download
a free flv player.

I have got things to do all this, but can't remember the names at the 
moment
and they are at home. But they were all found by googling. If you
want more information let me know and I'll take a note of all the
bits I use.
