Very sorry to hear about John.  I was wondering about Wendell, whose playing I hardly knew before I got the Preservation Hall CD on which Harold Dejan (after a stroke) merely sings. He really bowled me over on that, like one of the great swing trumpeters.  Plenty room to develop real ideas, with simply rhythm support, just magnificent though the playing time was too short. As I said when I reviewed it. 
Alas I've not heard a similar showcase of John, but I hope there is one.
