So much wonderfull music is LOST on a Gig !!
I thought that if I could record all that we play it would capture those
"Magic Moments" !!
Thank you in advance,

Ross, I am sure that some of the guys on here will give you some good advice
on what to use to record.

Let me say, once you get set up to record, remember that you handle a P.A.
system differently on a gig then you do recording. Meaning, depending on
the room, various instruments might be miked or might not be. For instance,
on a regular gig, unless it is a huge auditorium, the drums are usually not
miked. Other instruments may or may not be miked.

If the base and guitar use an amp, they won't be on mike. Likewise with an
electronic keyboard. Vocalists will tend to crowd the mike. Trumpet and
trombone will usually play away from the mike whereas a clarinet might play
right into it.

you will get only what comes over the P.A. Chances are, the
instruments/vocals, will be unbalanced.

I would set up a couple of extra mikes to pick up the over all sound and
then have mixing capabilities for post production.

Now, as far as telling you what equipment to use, I'm sure that some of our
resident recording engineers, Jim Kash & Paul Edgerton and others, will give
you some good advice.

Good luck,
