[Dixielandjazz] Concert with Jonathan Russell.

Here's a note from the gal who organized our concert with Jonathan
Russell last Sunday in West Chester PA., USA. There were about 500
people there and because of the publicity we sent out about, some came
from long distances (e.g. North Carolina and/or summer houses on the
New Jersey and Maryland or Delaware Shore) to see him with us even if
only at a 90 minute concert..

Also, a note from one of our fans whose 17 year old daughter is
studying classical violin.

Point being that Jonathan Russell draws an audience once you let
people know about his appearances. You should have heard the gasps and
spontaneous applause from the audience when they heard he had just
been booked by Wynton Marsalis to play with the Lincoln Center Jazz
Band in a few months.

Now's the time, given his momentum generated by Wynton and LCJB, to
bring this young man to your festival, jazz party, or event. He will
draw extra attendees, both young and old, if you promote him properly.

Cheers,
Steve Barbone

Good morning, Steve, Your concert was great and I’m sure that you
could tell that the audience loved it. I knew our group would
appreciate Jonathan. I had not seen the two of you duplicate “riffs”
before. What a treat. He is an amazing jazz musician and your
interplay was wonderful.

The bios of Ace and your trombone player brought back so many memories
of high school and college days. Also, Sat. nites at the Hershey
Hotel's open air ballroom (no longer in existence). Last time we saw
Anita O Day (not too many years before she died} I mentioned seeing
her there with Roy Eldridge doing “Let Me Off Uptown”. She said, “If
you ever worked there, you never forgot it.” She remembered the year
and month they played there. Another time and place.

Anyway, everyone loved your concert: One man told Jim that he drove
all the way up from the Outer Banks to be there. Others told me that
they came up from their shore homes to hear you. Again, thank you for
a wonderful evening. Betty

Good Morning Steve,

We enjoyed your concert Sunday night....as always you all sounded WON-
DER-FUL!

And as for Young Mr. Russell....he is a delight to listen to. My
daughter absolutely adored him and his playing. I told her you invited
her to sit in but she is too shy. <smile> She bought his CD, which he
graciously signed..

Thanks for the reminder of the rain date & we look forward to seeing
you again.

Cathy
