Earthquake McGoon's was a famous jazz club which was located in central San
Francisco and was the home of the Turk Murphy Jazz Band. One Sunday
afternoon it was being used as a fundraiser for a local charity benefiting
folks with speech impediments. Turk, who had a slight impediment himself,
introduced the event as THE DOWNTOWN STUTTERERS BALL.
