In the thread about Spanish names, someone mentions "It's Tight Like
That" and that Lil Harden Armstrong wrote it.
"It's Tight Like That" was composed by Georgia Tom (a/k/a Thomas A.
Dorsey), maybe with some help from Tampa Red (Hudson Woodbridge), not
Lillian Hardin Armstrong. I think Dorsey said that it was not an
original tune, but something that he had heard and decided to perform
and record it to make some money.
Those who have heard the original, point to its spoken lyric style as
early rap. That plus it sexually suggestive words. What?
Is there nothing new? <grin>
BTW: Loved the discovery of the Midnight Serenaders. There are quite a
few "unknown" bands like that around the USA that play OKOM to general
audiences. Check out Dee Settlemier's myspace page. She performs with
Midnight Serenaders as well as the Sweet Hollywaiians when they come
to Portland OR. (Sept 26)
