If you are in the area, Philly/ Wilmington/Baltimore/Wash DC from May
9 to May 11, check out this event in nearby Central Delaware. (website
link in article). The Barbone Street Jazz Band plays for swing dancing
in the dance tent, Saturday May 10 from 2 to 4 PM. Lessons from 1 to 2
PM with Paul Salter and Lindsay Simone instructing. You can see them
on page one of our myspace page. Super kids (early 30s) GREAT swing
dancers.

This is a multi-genre jazz/blues festival. Modern jazz headliner is
Cyrus Chestnut, with the Joe Baione Quintet and others to follow.
We're the swing dance mavens. Also several blues bands, Clarence
Spady, Sonny Rhodes and others. And Holly Lane sings at the Mother's
Day Brunch. She is terrific, we did a couple of high profile weddings
together as well as some jazz nightclub gigs in Rehoboth. See the
website for complete details. Admission $17 on Saturday, event runs
from 11 AM to 8 PM

Note also the "family" orientation of this event. Last year we threw
beads to lots of kids (5 to 14). <grin>

Cheers,
Steve Barbone

It’s a…. HOT OFF THE PRESS RELEASE for May 1, 2008

In a very short time, just days in fact, the second jazz, blues and
bbq 2008 event at Killens Pond State Park goes LIVE. Produced by
Delaware Charitable Music, Inc., the Festival has now expanded into a
weekend full of fun events that are musically invigorating and create
a respite from daily trials and tribulations. From May 9-11,2009 ,
Kent County, Delaware will host an array of musical talent. The
website for this event, www.dejazzbluesfest.com spells out all the
details. One can retrieve the lineup and even order Festival tickets
or perhaps buy the poster designed by illustrator Linda Olliver ,
send a message to the organizers or link to one of the area hotels.

What is necessary to know is that there are several activities
added to the May10 Festival Day itself. Dover Downs and Bacardi, USA
have deliciously offered to help kick off the weekend on Friday, May 9
with a special party in the Lobby Bar of the Dover Downs hotel which
will include a performance by International Bluesman, Sonny Rhodes,
free savory hors d’ oeuvres, and an array of Bacardi cheer. There
will be a cash bar ,of course ,and the band will play from 8-11PM.
This is a free event.

Then folks and families are invited to Killens Pond State Park for
an all-day affair with music on two stages, some dance instruction for
Swingers along with hand-selected food and artisan vendors. And then,
of course, the Kettle Korn man will show all the art of making popcorn
and the “Kite Man” will show us how to fly and the musicians will be
making music and the dancers over at the Dance Tent will be movin’ and
groovin’.The Park Rangers will be hosting different activities for
children throughout the day and it will all happen from 11:30 AM-8
PM. Tickets will be sold at the gate, if needed, for this Rain or
Shine event.

If too much fun has not created exhaustion, then the Dover Sheraton
has added the cherry on the sundae by bringing Live Music to its
unbelievable Mother’s Day Brunch. Shore Jazz, featuring vocalist
Holly Lane will perform during both seating’s. ( 11AM or 2
PM) .Tickets may be purchased by calling the Sheraton directly at

Come bring everyone you know to jazz blues & bbq 2008 weekend from
May 9-11. And don’t forget lawn chairs, some flags so you can find
your “camp”, some nice blankets to sit on and get warm with if the air
chills and perhaps a picnic. And get ready to have some fun.
