[Dixielandjazz] Query--what disposition of rare 78rpm recordings?

I owned a Garrard changer and a turntable. I'm pretty sure the turntable
would still work - as I recall it was a belt drive but changers have
zillions of wheels and cogs that don't hold up so well with age. Changing
out the belt would be the only thing and a belt might be hard to come by.
The rubber in changers and some turntables gets dried out and causes a flat
spot because of drying and the pressure brought about by the springs.

I only had the changer for a very short time and never looked under it or
don't remember it's mechanics but changers don't hold up very well in the
long term.

If it still works it's great. The Garrard was the top of the heap in the
60's and maybe longer than that. I think I got rid of a fairly new changer
because I didn't want my records dropping or having the hole enlarged by the
changer mechanism. I was very careful in those days to protect my vinyl.
It didn't do me much good but I did work at it.

I had a new album of Victory at Sea that I really liked and a friend came
over to my house and set the record on top of the amp then tried to make a
pass at my wife who threw him out. When I got home my new Victory record
was bent at a 90 degree angle and not even a Girrard could play it.
