Super jazz-fan Victor Horwitz of San Francisco writes:

I have over 200 78's, in pretty good condition, and

a Garrard changer (unused in the original container).

Almost all of these are instrumentals of the big bands

and small groups of the thirties.

Offer them on E-bay? Craigslist? Donate them to a

library or a radio station?

   Any suggestions? Victor

Please contact Victor Horwitz off-list, as he is not a DJML member.

But, I think it would also be of interest to the list, certainly to me, to
read your suggestions. His e-address is as above. My one suggestion to him
was to contact the museum of early music (not sure the exact name) in
Carlsbad, CA to see if there was interest from them.

The late Floyd Levin was scheduled to give a lecture on his association with
Louis Armstrong a couple of years ago. He was unable/unwilling to travel
because of his wife’s frail condition. His solution was to contact the
museum in Carlsbad. Representatives of the early music museum came to his
home in L.A. and made a video of the interview. It was subsequently shown
to an enthusiastic audience at the Satchmo Summerfest in New Orleans.

Allow me an anecdote about Victor Horwitz. He’s retired representative of
the company which makes, among other things, Levi jeans. His “signature
gift” to musicians and other friends was socks made by his company.
Certainly distinctive and it was a novelty which caused him to be pleasantly
remembered by his friends.

Thanks.

Norman
