I don't believe you Pat. You can't have been to the best
chippies :-)

Haddock is also pretty common and in the "better chippies"
you could get rock salmon, which was a posh name for dog fish.

Then there are other delicacies, like Saveloys (a rather
brightly coloured sausage with a dubious content :-) and
the battered sausage (guaranteed to give cholesterol just
looking at it).

These days you have to choose your chippy with care. I doubt you
will find a "real" one in the centre of London. The best ones
now tend to be in the north of England, although if you know where
to look most towns have something decent. Even if it is run by
the local Chinese and does takeaway noodles as well.
