Dear Gerard,

I knew Illinois Jacquet well because his daughter got an M. D. degree from 
the medical school where I taught, and her name was always Pamela 
"Ja-kette." The New York Times, July 23, 2004: "Jacquet (pronounced Ja-KETT, 
but often rendered as JACK-et by his friends). This could account for the 
continuation of the oft-quoted French pronunciation. Regards.
