Dear Rae Ann,

For what it is worth the liner notes in the 5 vol Morton collection on JSP,
a beautiful piece of work, say that the tune was a Morton composition ,
recorded on March 5th 1930.In the list of Morton compositions in the book "
Jelly's Blues" the tune is shown as being published by Southern in 1932. I
enjoyed that book but would not necessarily stake my life on some details
given in it.

As Jelly recorded it 2 years before publication it could well have been one
of the many examples of him being ripped off by the crooks in the industry.
There are enough credible reports of this happening and the inequities that
Jelly suffered that would make this seem to be very possible.

I suggest that you contact a Jelly expert for as close as you are likely to
come to getting a true answer. Mike Meddings in the UK comes to mind,
