Hi John:

Sorry, no first hand knowledge of Aaron Sachs. But I do have first hand
knowledge of Hank D'Amico, a wonderful clarinetist who also recorded with
Norvo (& Mildred Bailey), as well as with Louis Armstrong. He was a neighbor
of mine in Queens County, NYC. Took me to various jazz clubs when I was
still in high school and introduced me to Armstrong, Omer Simeon, Sidney
Bechet, Tony Scott and others.

Beautiful tone, great ideas, but very different from Goodman though the
influence was there. He became a studio musician in the 40s in order to make
a living and raise a family while gigging jazz on the side. Great player,
great man, died too young from cancer at age 50. I also dated his daughter,
Betty Lou, a dancer and a beautiful girl in every way.

Thanks, Steve. Apologies for delay in acknowledging ~ we have builders in at 
the moment so things are a bit chaotic and I'm only just catching up on a 
backlog of mail. Hank D'amico is yet another name which is not, I suspect, 
*that* well known here.
