Joe--
Ah, yes, beautiful downtown Placerville (nee Hangtown)! I used
to play sousaphone with the Reno Municipal Band on gigs in
Placerville in the 1960s, and i've driven through (and gotten
gasoline) there within the last couple of years.
What (actually, who) you need to know is Bob Ringwald
(robert at ringwald.com), who lives there. He is a marvelous
piano-player, leader of the Fulton Street Jazz Band, moderator of the
Dixieland Jazz Mailing List (http://www.islandnet.com/~djml/), and
father of Molly Ringwald. If there's anyone who knows what's going
on with music in Placerville (PLASS-er-ville, not PLACE-er-ville) and
the left coast music-community in general, it's Bob.
Now, Visalia ain't all that far from Placerville, but you might
be more familar with tuba-stuff than dixieland-stuff. Whatever. Get
in touch with Bob.
