>From Today's auction at Keeneland Kentucky. Seems as if the Dixieland Band
progeny (horses) are still doing better than us Dixieland Bands. (musicians)
<grin> The $285,000 price for a broodmare is pretty darn good. But then,
Dixieland Band, syndicated locally by some neighbors, was a very successful
race horse and a great stud and his daughter, Tally Ho Dixie is in foal to
Grand Slam.

Those on the list who follow horse racing are probably quite familiar with
Dixieland Band, the horse. The owners were dedicated Dixieland fans, hence
the name, quite active in high society, (Philadelphia PA/Wilmington DE USA)
and provided many Dixieland gigs for our band over the years.

Dixieland Band's daddy was Northern Dancer. His get (children/grandchildren)
include major winners like Street Sense and a host of horses with Dixie or
Band or Dancing in their names.

Nice to read about a Dixieland Band that is shaping the future of its genre.

Cheers,
Steve Barbone

"A strong mix of international and domestic buyers was active Nov. 11 at the
seventh session of the Keeneland November breeding stock sale. A dark bay
daughter of champion broodmare sire Dixieland Band brought $285,000 early in
the day to top the session and close the fourth catalog of the 15-day
auction. The winning 5-year-old mare, named Tally Ho Dixie, is carrying her
first foal by Grand Slam."
