I sing, in English, to a mainly non-English speaking crowd.  Still make good
connection with the audience.  So, it's not necessarily the words or the
voice.  I revert back to my first assumption, that people can relate to a
voice easier than to an instrument.  Gives a break to the constant
instrument presentation, also.
