Professor Ringwald well knows wherefrom he speaks. The average audience
member for OKOM music in the United States, whether at a club or at an
outdoor bandstand performance, most likely wandered in looking for a
restroom or a place to sit briefly with the grandkids and was not attracted
by any ardent desire to hear the band¹s rendition of ŒThe Varsity Drag¹ or
ŒToot Toot Tootsie¹. Cinch up the trumpet player¹s truss, throw on some
pinstripes with a pinch-back coat, maybe some 2-tone shoes and a fedora, and
you can give them ŒSouth Rampart Street Parade¹ and even ŒHello Dolly¹ or --
the horror! -- ŒCabaret¹ and they will feel well and truly entertained in
the 1920s fashion.
