Out here in Denver, many black musicians are into other styles. A few here in there are jazz players, blues players but
most are in the hip-hop/rap or R&B styles. You also have crossovers that do things with rock and reggae bands.
Denver doesn't really have a large black population like many southern and northeastern cities, so black musicians out
here are few. Denver has a jazz scene but it is mostly a rock and jamband town.

their heritage and culture.  Their parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles all played and sang jazz, blues, gospel --
everybody grew up with this kind of music, and every black musician I know has an older relative who was a notable
musician.  And everybody still listens to it.  We have performances where the ages range from toddlers to people in
their 80s (or 90s, if you count trumpeter Lionel Ferbos).
