Hello all,

The website has been updated with 8 items of great historical interest to
devotees of Horace Eubanks, Charles Elgar, Harrison Smith, Fletcher
Henderson, Emile Christian, Jelly Roll Morton and J. Lawrence Cook.

Noted British jazz researcher Howard Rye sends a superb essay on reedman
Horace Eubanks. This accompanies Eubanks' WWI draft registration card.

Prof. Lawrence Gushee sends an excellent essay on bandleader Antoine Charles
Elgar. This accompanies Elgar's WWI draft registration card.

Peter Hanley sends an excellent essay on Harrison G. Smith (a.k.a. the West
Indian in Lomax). This accompanies Smith's WWI draft registration card.

Brian Goggin sends an in-depth essay on bandleader and arranger Fletcher
Hamilton Henderson Jr. This accompanies Henderson's WWI draft registration
card.

Howard Rye sends a superb essay on the trombonist Emile J. Christian. Much
detail of his overseas travels and performances. This accompanies
Christian's WWI draft registration card.

Peter Hanley sends details of the full name of Dr. J. P. Oliver (Jelly Roll's
brother-in-law). This is shown as updated text on the "An Essay in
Genealogy" page.

Adam Ramet sends an article titled: "Chamber Music Society of Lower Basin
Street" from the TIME magazine dated 23rd September 1940. From this
article it can now be reasonably certain that the "unknown" announcer for
Jelly Roll's appearance on 14th July 1940 broadcast was Gene Hamilton.

Canadian mechanical music collector Ken Vinen sends rare correspondence,
rate cards and catalogue lists for 65-note Rewind Electric Pianos of J.
Lawrence Cook, who set up a business on his own in the 1950s as the
"Perforated Music Roll Specialist". This concludes the items from Ken.

The above items can be accessed from the grey UPDATED BOX at:

Hope you enjoy the above contributions from my team of top-class jazz
researchers.

Future essays and WWI draft registration cards will include : Tommy Ladnier,
Paul Adolph Barbarin, Charles Lee Cooke, Tony Jackson and Charles Lucky
Roberts.

Musically yours

Mike.
