Dear Tom,
For what it is worth, Chumley's doesn't rate a mention in the list of 
jazz nightspots in 'The New Grove Dictionary of Jazz'.
I have several other books which detail the New York scene from  the 
20s to the 40s so will check them on my return.
On Tuesday mornings we catch up with the latest big screen filums in 
our fair city.
