[Dixielandjazz] Jacques Gauthe

I have just received news that clarinetist/soprano saxophonist Jacques
Gauthe' has passed away in France. I believe that he played a concert in
his hometown on Saturday night and died of a heart attack during his sleep
that night.

Jacques had been an important part of the jazz scene in New Orleans for
many years. His Creole Rice Yerba Buena Jazz Band was a fixture at Le
Meridien Hotel in the 1990s and he had worked for many years at
Preservation Hall. He was also well-respected as professional chef before
he retired from that profession to pursue music full-time.

His passing will leave a void in the New Orleans music scene and he will
be missed by many people worldwide.
