Subject: [Dixielandjazz] Memories of Great Musicians

Ed Coltrin's interesting historical recollections of his experiences
listening to some of the great past players in California brings back
similar memories of experiences I've had in Wisconsin.

[Tom] My first jazz memory set a real high water mark. Maybe someone on the
list can pinpoint the year, I think it was '51 or '52, and I was a Junior
High School clarinetist.

A friend's father took us to Public Hall in Cleveland for a concert that
hooked me on jazz for all these years . . . .

Benny Goodman and the Orchestra with Krupa, Jess Stacey and many others from
the Carnegie Hall gang

The second half of the concert . . .

Only Louis Armstrong and the All Stars with Trummy Young and Velma Middleton
doing the splits :-)

The finale . . . The combined bands doing Saints. Public Hall never swung so
much.
