Regarding the recent discussion about the first Ory recording date:
Suppositions become "facts" when they are repeated often enough.  Fortunately 
a healthy degree of scepticism has been shown in the recent  postings. 
Nevertheless it behoves us all to weigh the evidence and assess  according to its 
merits whilst avoiding jumping to conclusions because something  gets repeated 
in any number of books. A particular case in point is the almost  universal 
"fact" repeated in book after book, let alone innumerable websites, is  that 
Allan and Sandra Jaffe started Preservation Hall which would be news to Ken  
Mills. It began formally as a Kitty Hall in June 1961, run by Barbara Reid  
Edmiston, Ralph Collins and Ken Mills in premises owned by Larry Borenstein  
previously used as an art gallery, and only later did the Jaffes take over.  
Subsequently, it seems, Edmiston, Collins and Mills have been airbrushed out of  the 
"history" books. The Jaffes did a wonderful job in making the Hall  successful, 
but they did not start it.
